Massage Therapy - Descriptions

La Stone Therapy

La Stone Therapy, also known as hot and cold stone therapy is a type of massage that uses smooth, heated and cooled stones to relieve stiffness and restore energy to aching muscles and joints. This is a deeply soothing and relaxing form of massage. This treatment helps improve circulation and clients who receive a hot stone massage report decrease muscular aches and pains. Arthritic sufferers, fibromyalgia patients and multiple sclerosis clients can expect symptomatic relief from their conditions. Clients walk away feeling very relaxed and can often have improved sleeps and fewer headaches due to stress relief.

La Stone Therapy involves the use of water-heated smooth basalt stones held by the therapist and used to provide a Swedish based massage therapy treatment. The application of some of the stones to key points on the body adds a source of heat during the treatment. Treatment length is 75 minutes.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, rhythmic massage that relieves congestion of the lymphatic system, enhances circulation, reduces edema and stimulates the system to eliminate toxins.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is safe and can be enjoyed throughout the entire prenatal period. This treatment can help alleviate the physical discomfort associated with pregnancy as well as other related symptoms such as:

  • increased circulation
  • improved digestion
  • reduced fatigue, more energy
  • fewer leg cramps
  • alleviates stress on weight bearing joints
  • decrease insomnia
  • help maintain proper posture
  • reduces stress hormones and increase mood and mental attitude

Pregnancy massage can be done in different ways. Expectant moms have an option of using a specially designed pillow that allows the mother-to-be to lie safely on her belly during the treatment. Another option is for the moms to lie on their sides. Pillows are used to keep the mothers body in an elevated position to maintain comfort and good circulation. Pregnancy massage is provided by using a variety of techniques such as Swedish massage, Breathing and Visualization Education and Self-care at home. The treatments can be altered to meet the needs of a woman experiencing higher risks or complications during their pregnancy.

Registered Massage Therapists focus on meeting the therapeutic needs of the expectant mother as she goes through the physical and emotional changes related to the childbearing experience.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is beneficial to everyone involved with sporting activities and exercise. Pre/post event massage helps to maintain and increase range of motion, reduce lactic acid, decrease residual pain and tension, enhance performance and expendability.

Sport massage can be beneficial for conditioning and training, pre/post competition and injury prevention. The focus of Sport Massage Therapy is on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance therefore the client can expect a more aggressive, deeper therapeutic massage treatment.

Thai Massage

The practitioner guides the recipient passively through a series of slow and rhythmic yoga like postures, while palming along the body's energy lines. Together these actions result in a full body treatment that relieves muscle tension, improves circulation and balances the body energetically.

Traditional Thai Massage is performed on the floor with a mat. Both client and practitioner are dressed in comfortable clothing allowing ease of movement and flexibility. No oils or creams are used. This revitalizing treatment is either 60 or 90 minutes in length.
